Denver Kids, Inc.

Denver Kids, Inc.Denver Kids, Inc. (DKI) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1993 with over 90 years of collective history. DKI provides long-term preventive counseling to male and female students in Denver Public Schools who are identified by school personnel as being at-risk, needing support and guidance beyond what is provided in school. Each student is guided by a DKI counselor who provides one-to-one academic and personal counseling to address a variety of needs for each student, on an individual basis.

DKI students are also matched on a one-to-one basis with a Mentor from the community who commits his or her time and energy to serve as a Mentor Friend for a year, or more. The Mentor Friend receives training and guidance to serve as a positive, adult role model in the student’s life. Each year, Mentors contribute over 30,000 hours to DKI.

DKI is an affiliate of Denver Public Schools, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Denver, the Zonta Club of Denver and Denver Active 20-30. These organizations provide funding for program support and representation from the community.

Individuals who share a common concern for youth and support the goals of DKI compose the Board of Directors. The majority consists of members of DKI’s sponsoring organizations and the remaining members-at-large represent various segments of the community.
