Comparing to most part of the United States, Colorado has a quite complex climate. The typical North-South / Warmer-Cooler climatic variation in the US is applicable in Colorado. The local climate is highly affected by the Mountains and surroundings. As we know, rise in elevation results in temperature decrease and increase in precipitation. A major climatic division in the State occurs between the Plains on the East and Rocky Mountains on the West.
The uniformity of the weather is relatively low in the West of the foothills and plains. Based on the topography of this area, a few miles away from the plains can feel totally different weather. Since thunderstorms are highly common in Colorado, it holds the record for most number of deaths because of lightning in the USA. Similar to the thunderstorms, floods are also common in the Colorado, especially in the plains. Not only due to thunderstorms, but also because of heavy snowfall in the mountain regions followed by warm, that returns as floods.
