Colorado Historical Society was founded in the year 1879. This society brings forward the true and unique past of Colorado to more than a million people year after year through their historical museums and highway markers, exhibitions, manuscript and photograph collections, popular and scholarly publications, and historical and archaeological preservation services. They also have educational programs for children and even for adults.
Colorado Historical Society is a non profit organization having its own membership. It collects, preserves, and then interprets to all the history of Colorado
The society operates 12 historic sites and museums at 10 different locations in Colorado. The Colorado History Museum in Denver is also part of Colorado Historical Society. Each museum has its own regional character and thematic focus. One can discover information from the days of trading fur along the South Platte and Arkansas Rivers to the early life of Hispanic and their settlement in southern Colorado, the Ute Indians of the Western Slope and many more.
The mission of this Colorado Historical Society is to collect, preserve and to interpret those things to all. It contains more than 125,000 artifacts and 8 million historical documents that include books, photographs, maps, diaries, and also newspapers.
