Interesting Places To Visit In Durango, The Mountain Town

Durango, also called as the Mountain town of Colorado is the starting point to tour the entire south west side of Colorado. You can start the day with breakfast at Brickhouse Cafe and head on to Animas River Trail. On the north end of Main Ave is the Animas Mountain, a great place for hiking. It is ideal in the winter with little snow. There are many points on the trail from where you can see the entire Durango town. You can actually feel the La Platas at the top most point which is about 1500 feet.

Back here in Durango, there are many places to have fun like the golf, fly fishing, or a horseback riding. You can even go down the river and have a nice raft trip. You can relax on the benches viewing the gurgling river as it passes by. And not to forget the lunch, Cypress Cafe is a perfect place to have your mid day meal or a drink. There are a few things which increases our adrenaline levels, like white water rafting, zipline adventure, glider soaring. You can also try jeep tours and alpine sliding. Just a few miles away from Durango there is Mesa Verde National Park. It is an interesting place where we can observe the ancient Pueblo culture and the prehistoric archaeological traditions. It has spectacular cliff dwellings including Cliff Palace which is considered as the largest cliff dwelling in North America. It has a Spruce tree house and a square tower house which are the major attractions. There is a Mug house which consists of 94 rooms in four levels including a large kiva and Mesa Verde Reservoirs which were named A National Civil Engineering Historical Landmark. You can even take a bus tour round the park.

Denver has one of the fastest growing populations in North America, due, in no small part, to the frequency that visitors fall in love with the city. I love going to Durango. It is also popular for outdoor activities like hiking, mountain biking, road biking, backpacking, rock climbing, hunting, off-roading, year-round fishing, kayaking and golfing.

Beautiful area, I visited the cliff dwellings years ago. It’s worth visiting for sure.

Great post! I love Mesa Verde. Having lived in the four corners for the past 10 years, and coming from Oklahoma, I can tell you that a visit here will improve your sense of being. Seriously, we have history, hikes and slopes you can hit. On that note, check out this travel contest: http://www.ospreypacks.com/OspreyLifestyle/TravelContest. Maybe your readers will be able to visit Telluride/Durango this winter.
