Denver Aquarium History
Denver Aquarium started as Colorado Ocean Journey. Bill Fleming and Judy Peterson Fleming found Colorado Ocean Journey in 1999 and got accredited by Association of Zoos and Aquarium soon after starting operating. It started a non-profit organization.
Due to recession in US economy the Colorado Ocean Journey failed to meet the required number of foot fall and declared bankrupt in 2002. Landry’s Restaurants Inc. took over Colorado Ocean Journey in 2003. Landry’s renovated the place and facilitated it with a full restaurant, ballroom, and bar, and renamed it to Downtown Aquarium, also commonly known as Denver Aquarium. Downtown Aquarium reopened in a new avatar in 2005.

At The Bach Collection
The animals which live near the shallow water regions and spend most of their lifetime dipped under the sand near the shore consists this collection.
Shipwreck Collection
This area is designed like a wrecked ship and the exhibits form the collection of aquatic animals which swim around the ship-ruins under deepest level of sea.
Sunken Temple Collection
This area is designed like the ancient temple ruins under the oceans, that bears many tales and civilizations with them. The exhibited aquatic animals are also housed syncing with the set up.
Coral Lagoon Collection
The barrier reef under ocean breaks the waves and keeps them from plunging on the shore. This zone is designed like one of those coral lagoons and those aquatic species which reside near this zone are exhibited in this zone in the Denver aquarium.
The Rainforest Collection
Collection of this zone is from different tropical rain forest zones. The collection also includes those from mangrove marsh from around the rivers, some small fishes, etc.
At The Wharf Collection
This zone is designed like a wharf where the waves hurtle around all the time. The aquatic animals which are of the nature of hiding from the sun and stay dug deep under water in this wharf zone are exhibited in this zone.
Under The Sea Collection
The aquatic animals that reside just off the shore in the sea are being exhibited in this zone.
In The Desert Collection
This zone is designed to house the desert amphibians and aquatic animals that are adapted to less water and so is the collection which syncs with the zone architecture.
North America Collection
This area is designed like the typical North American sea life which houses a variety of different species of aquatic animals. Thus the collection at this zone consist of those animals only which reside in the North American zone of the water world.
