During winter, the water in this lake used to freeze to solid ice which made it easier for the railroad men to cut the blocks of ice and use it to freeze the perishable goods. The needs of Pikes Peak region were supplied mostly by a private ice company. Hence the blocks of ice cut were supplied to districts of Colorado, Cripple Creek and Colorado Spring by Colorado midland railway.

The population of the community was very less but gradually after 1900, some of the ranchers and farmers started cultivating high altitude potatoes on a limited scale and hence slowing raising the traffic of the midland railway. However in Aug 1918, the Colorado Midland Railway was closed. The abandoned track of the Colorado midland Railways was then followed by the U.S Route. By 1941, the community had become an area of extensive potato growing area and the community had become bigger.
