Georgetown Loop Railroad Location

This historical Loop Mining and Railroad Park is located on 45 miles towards the west of business town of Denver. The park is off the Interstate 70.

Georgetown Loop Railroad Direction

Drive through Exit-226 while driving on east or west bound on the Interstate 70 to reach the adventurous railroad park. Enter through Silver Plume Depot.

Drive through Exit-228 while on east or west bound on the Interstate 70, then take right turn to reach Visitor’s Center. From there keep driving following the sign boards.

Georgetown Loop Railroad History

This loop railroad was considered as one of the most magnificent engineering result of its time. The construction work completed in the year 1884. Georgetown railroad, Breckenridge railroad and Leadville railroad were formed by the Union Pacific Railroad in the year 1881.  During this time the railroad was used mostly to tow silver ore from Silver Plume.

In the year 1893, the railroad was taken up by Colorado and Southern Railway. The organization started plying commuters to and fro via the loop. Sometime in 1980 the loop railroad was renovated and made a tourist attraction with mine tours. To preserve the original essence of the loop rail, the trains run on narrow-gauge steam engines till date.

On the occasion of centennial year of gold in Georgetown in the year 1959, Colorado Historical Society formed Georgetown Loop Historic Mining and Railroad Park. Sometime in the 1970s, this place was open to public as a tourist attraction.

Georgetown Loop Railroad Tour & Attraction

The loop railroad tour is of 1 hour and 15 min. The trip is about 7 round miles. The loop rail runs between Georgetown and Silver Plume. Walking tours are also given to the tourists at the site for a little more extra charge.

It is very educative and entertaining to go through the mines. The mine is down under 500 ft and very cold inside. The ride itself via the loop from one hill to another is a thrilling experience.

The historical loop railroad park operates throughout the year. The park is open from 10 am to 6 pm approximately. The park authorities change their summer and winter operational hours. Please check with them about the hours while planning for a day at the park.

Georgetown Loop Railroad Tickets & Coupons

Get the tickets and coupons at Devil’s Gate Station and Silver Plume Depot. Counter opens at 9.30 am in Devil’s Gate and at 9 am in Silver Plume. For every railroad trip the tickets have to be purchased half an hour before the trip starts.

Children within 3 years and 15 years of age – $16.95

Children under 3 years of age can enjoy the ride for free.

Fee for the Holiday Cheer party is only applicable for people above 21 years of age – $34.95
