Colorado Historical Society - A Great Source For Colorado History

Colorado Historical Society was founded in the year 1879. This society brings forward the true and unique past of Colorado to more than a million people year after year through their historical museums and highway markers, exhibitions, manuscript and photograph collections, popular and scholarly publications, and historical and archaeological preservation services. They also have educational programs for children and even for adults.

Colorado Historical Society is a non profit organization having its own membership. It collects, preserves, and then interprets to all the history of Colorado

The society operates 12 historic sites and museums at 10 different locations in Colorado. The Colorado History Museum in Denver is also part of Colorado Historical Society. Each museum has its own regional character and thematic focus. One can discover information from the days of trading fur along the South Platte and Arkansas Rivers to the early life of Hispanic and their settlement in southern Colorado, the Ute Indians of the Western Slope and many more.

The mission of this Colorado Historical Society is to collect, preserve and to interpret those things to all. It contains more than 125,000 artifacts and 8 million historical documents that include books, photographs, maps, diaries, and also newspapers.

Denver Museum of Nature & ScienceThe Denver Museum of Nature & Science is the Rocky Mountain region’s leading resource for informal science education. A day at the museum is a perfect outing for any family. If possible, try to incorporate an IMAX movie or a show at the planetarium. And don’t forget lunch at the T-Rex CafĂ© or Snack Bar and shopping at the gift shop. The entrance to the Underground Parking Garage is on the west side of the Museum’s north parking lot, by the main entrance. There are 550 underground spaces on two levels, including multiple spots for those with disabilities. But if you can’t find a space underground there is additional parking located on the east side of the Museum, facing Colorado Boulevard, and to the south of the Museum, along the access road that intersects 17th Avenue. Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave in Golden, Colorado

Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave - Golden, ColoradoWilliam F. Cody was born on February 26, 1846, in a log cabin west of the Mississippi River.
By the time he was 15, William had been a bullwhacker, a mounted messenger, a trapper, a gold prospector and a Pony Express rider. He served 18 months in the Civil War as a scout for the 7th Kansas Cavalry.
After the war, in 1967-1968, Cody briefly operated a hotel, drove a stage, and he gained his nickname for killing 4,280 buffalo in eight months to feed the Union Pacific Railroad workers. He became one of the most renowned prairie scouts and received the United States Medal of Honor in 1872 for gallantry as an army scout, but a congressional ruling in 1917, shortly after Cody’s death, caused his medal to be revoked.
