Durango, also called as the Mountain town of Colorado is the starting point to tour the entire south west side of Colorado. You can start the day with breakfast at Brickhouse Cafe and head on to Animas River Trail. On the north end of Main Ave is the Animas Mountain, a great place for hiking. It is ideal in the winter with little snow. There are many points on the trail from where you can see the entire Durango town. You can actually feel the La Platas at the top most point which is about 1500 feet.

Back here in Durango, there are many places to have fun like the golf, fly fishing, or a horseback riding. You can even go down the river and have a nice raft trip. You can relax on the benches viewing the gurgling river as it passes by. And not to forget the lunch, Cypress Cafe is a perfect place to have your mid day meal or a drink. There are a few things which increases our adrenaline levels, like white water rafting, zipline adventure, glider soaring. You can also try jeep tours and alpine sliding. Just a few miles away from Durango there is Mesa Verde National Park. It is an interesting place where we can observe the ancient Pueblo culture and the prehistoric archaeological traditions. It has spectacular cliff dwellings including Cliff Palace which is considered as the largest cliff dwelling in North America. It has a Spruce tree house and a square tower house which are the major attractions. There is a Mug house which consists of 94 rooms in four levels including a large kiva and Mesa Verde Reservoirs which were named A National Civil Engineering Historical Landmark. You can even take a bus tour round the park.

Built in 1926, the Wonder Tower is situated between New York and Denver. Earlier it was used by CW Gregory, Colorado’s P.T. Barnum, to spot the license plate of cars. After the death of C.W., the owners of the wonder tower from last 20 years are Jerry and Ester Chubbuck. They have very well maintained the tower and kept it alive for the general public. It costs just $1 for the admission in the tower.
Main attractions are a Two Headed Calf, Animal Monstrosities and a mess of spoons. It also has an Indian room with its walls painted by an Indian princess. The Animal Monstrosities room has an eight footed pig and one eyed pig both kept in separate jars. But the conditions of the jars are such that one is dusty dry while the other is leaking formaldehyde.
The top of the tower is a must visit place but is not advisable for faint hearted and flabby people.
