Your trip to Colorado would not be completed, if you don’t visit Denver. There is an incredible building in Colorado, made of white granite. This building was built in the year 1886, with intensive care with the plan to stand for centuries. The dome of this building is becharming and dominates the skyline of Denver. The height is about 272 feet and is covered by gold leaf.

You will find wall paintings with in the building, that represent the history of the state. It is noted as a brillient piece of art and architecture, which words are not sufficient to describe. The Denver Museum of Nature & Science is the Rocky Mountain region’s leading resource for informal science education. A day at the museum is a perfect outing for any family. If possible, try to incorporate an IMAX movie or a show at the planetarium. And don’t forget lunch at the T-Rex Café or Snack Bar and shopping at the gift shop. The entrance to the Underground Parking Garage is on the west side of the Museum’s north parking lot, by the main entrance. There are 550 underground spaces on two levels, including multiple spots for those with disabilities. But if you can’t find a space underground there is additional parking located on the east side of the Museum, facing Colorado Boulevard, and to the south of the Museum, along the access road that intersects 17th Avenue. Well maybe not the best scenic drive ever but at least one of the best. Mt Evans Scenic drive surely will impress you from the very start to the end. You will have many things to see on the 14 Miles of driving from breathtaking scenery to animals like the Big Horn Sheep and the Pika. For things to do in Colorado this has to rank in your top 10 for sure. There is a parking lot at the end of the 14 miles but you are still not at the very top of Mt. Evans. You still have 130 ft of hiking to go. Please be careful if your not used to the altitude. Visit our Altitude Sickness post so you know what signs to look at for. William F. Cody was born on February 26, 1846, in a log cabin west of the Mississippi River.
By the time he was 15, William had been a bullwhacker, a mounted messenger, a trapper, a gold prospector and a Pony Express rider. He served 18 months in the Civil War as a scout for the 7th Kansas Cavalry.
After the war, in 1967-1968, Cody briefly operated a hotel, drove a stage, and he gained his nickname for killing 4,280 buffalo in eight months to feed the Union Pacific Railroad workers. He became one of the most renowned prairie scouts and received the United States Medal of Honor in 1872 for gallantry as an army scout, but a congressional ruling in 1917, shortly after Cody’s death, caused his medal to be revoked.
