Well maybe not the best scenic drive ever but at least one of the best. Mt Evans Scenic drive surely will impress you from the very start to the end. You will have many things to see on the 14 Miles of driving from breathtaking scenery to animals like the Big Horn Sheep and the Pika. For things to do in Colorado this has to rank in your top 10 for sure. There is a parking lot at the end of the 14 miles but you are still not at the very top of Mt. Evans. You still have 130 ft of hiking to go. Please be careful if your not used to the altitude. Visit our Altitude Sickness post so you know what signs to look at for. This activity is absolutely perfect for families on vacation. Enjoy a fun filled snowcat ride up the mountain, a true western BBQ dinner, and an evening filled with sing-a-longs. Riding in a snowcat is really fun. For those of you who are not sure what a snowcat is… it’s an enclosed-cab, truck sized, fully tracked vehicle designed to move on snow.

What is the old saying…”A Picture is worth a thousand words”. This picture really says it all. How does something like this happen in between these mountains. The Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve is surely one of the most magnificent natural wonders. You must make a trip and visit the Sand Dunes yourself. It is a little out of the way so make sure you plan accordingly. There are many camping areas but hotels are at least 45 minutes away.

Visiting in Winter the hours are 9am – 4:30 pm.

Visiting in Summer the hours are 9am – 6pm.

Camping is first come first serve so make sure you come early to grab a spot.

Entrance fees are $3 per adult (age 16 and older). Entrance fees are valid for one week from date of purchase. Children are free at all times.

Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve Annual Pass costs $15, and admits pass holder and all family members in the vehicle into the park for one year from date of purchase.

Cave of the Winds was opened in 1880 and known for being the oldest attraction in the Pikes Peak region. They offer two guided tours of 20 colorfully lighted cavern rooms. Each tour offers a different look into the mystery of the caverns. When you plan your trip to Colorado Springs, Colorado you have to include a trip to Seven Falls. This magnificent attraction is a must do thing to do in Colorado. Seven Falls is 181 feet of seven waterfalls and is located on the south side of the Cheyenne Canyon. You can walk beside the falls on a 224 step stairway that eventually will take you up to the eagles next. This is not an easy task so come prepared. Seven Falls hours is restricted during Winter so make sure you go to their website to check for hours. I have two videos below to show you the big difference between summer and winter.

Just 15 minutes from Telluride and 45 minutes from Ouray lies one of Colorado’s least known, but most spectacular river. The San Miguel River is a tributary of the Dolores River, approximately 90 miles long in southwestern Colorado in the United States. My favorite thing to do on the San Miguel River is to raft it! Helicopter skiing is absolutely the greatest ultimate adventure in skiing or snowboarding. Since 1982, Telluride Helitrax has offered helicopter skiing in the most remote southwest corner of the state of Colorado. They provide heli-skiing and heli-boarding in untracked powder with only small custom groups. The company offered the highest helicopter ski accessed terrain in North America. This 206-mile mountain bike route stretches from Telluride, Colorado to Moab, Utah, which is interspersed with fully-equipped huts spaced approximately 35 miles apart. They are basically designed for bikers in needed for a true biking adventure. The wooden huts are fully equipped for 8 people. The one room wooden huts are equipped with bunk beds and pads, sleeping bags, propane powered lights and cook stoves, cookware, food and water. There are no plumbing or bathing facilities, though streams and ponds are abundant along the trail for washing up. The food supply is replenished every other day, so you’ll never need to worry about running out of food. Rocky Mountain National Park Colorado was introduced in 1915 by Woodrow Wilson. With elevations between 7700′ through 14,000′ Rocky Mountain National Park is definitely considered a mountainous environment. With 265,000 acres, 160 lakes and over 600 miles of stream Rocky Mountain National Park is definitely a sight to see. The best thing to do when your in the Park is to drive across the Trail Ridge Road. Starts at the Deer Ridge Junction (US 36 and US 34) on the east side of the park and the Colorado River Trailhead on the western slope. Trail ridge road is closed from mid-October to June.
